Age; 18
House; Sigyn
Power; Healing
Personality; At a glance, Cheria Barnes seems like a simple enough girl--polite, reserved, and only speaking when necessary. Our first real look at her shapes her out to be a rather cold and distant girl, a person simply acting out of duty and obligations rather than out of feelings or friendships. For a good portion of the beginning, she keeps this front up quite well. Despite meeting new people and forming acquaintances over the first few parts, she never seems particularly friendly or interested in getting to know them. From treating her former childhood friend as a stranger to dismissing the girl she befriended and thought died from so long ago, Cheria tries to pass herself as a mature, fully-grown adult.
However, the truth is that almost all of that is just her response in not knowing how to act. What was she supposed to do after reuniting with her friend after seven years, a friend whom she cared deeply for but who made a promise to her then broke it the very next day to run off and leave home? How was she supposed to react when a literal ghost from the past reappeared before her eyes? Seven years of loneliness, bitterness, and just not knowing resulted in her acting coldly and distantly. In truth though, she was just frustrated because she didn't know what to do or how to act. In the end, there was no way she could keep all her thoughts bottled up for so long, and they eventually burst out in a tantrum and frustrated tears. It was only the relief of getting everything out and reconciling that could return her to how she was before--a kind, cheerful girl.
And that is what Cheria is, an exceedingly kind and warm-hearted girl. Not only does she dedicate herself to helping the wounded and less fortunate, the capacity of her heart is beyond measure. When someone kidnapped her and planned for her to be murdered, she healed them as soon as they tried to kill themselves in disgrace. Her willingness to forgive those who have wronged her is greater than most others, and her kind smile is enough to win over even the most bitter of foes. (In fact, said person fell crazily in love with her soon after, but... that's another story.) By the end of the main arc, two men practically offer their hands to her, perfectly happy and willing to take care of her and live happily, but she chooses instead to remain with her relief organization. Cheria takes the harder path of traveling around the world constantly to help those in need, but it is the path she has chosen and the one she has all intents of remaining on. She is a young woman who knows what she wants for herself, even if it causes someone else some sort of hardship.
As mature as she is though, Cheria is also very much a young teenage girl in love. She frets about things like her weight, her hair, and the fashion choices of her friends. She's quick to complain about something she doesn't like and often finds herself exasperated at the others' antics. While she eventually reconciled with Asbel, she would always be the very last to ever admit what she really felt about him all those years. She's very much like a lot of girls who fall in love: reluctant to say anything yet somehow hoping they'll notice something and talk to them anyways. It helps that she's known him for so long, but that doesn't make her any less quick to shut up conversations about her and Asbel. On the other hand, she's also very much like a mother, always hassling and nagging others about things like getting a good meal or taking a bath. Of course, these things all come from the fact that she worries and cares for everyone. In fact, just as how Sophie comes to see Asbel like her father, she says that Cheria would be her mother.
Because she was very sickly as a child, Cheria always tries her best to keep up with the others now that she's healthy, sometimes to the point of disregarding her own well-being. What she doesn't want is to be left behind again, and in her eyes that means having to be strong no matter what. However, that doesn't mean she wants to get "ahead" of everyone else. No, what Cheria actually hopes for is that even if their paces are different or off-sync, there will come a time when she'll be able to "run together" with the people she cares for.
